THIRD SECTOR

Working to Develop Third Sector Organisations

Chris Gatman has a wealth of experience in this sector.  She has held advisory and none-executive director roles, working with the board to support the best interests of the charity and engender the enthusiasm and commitment of staff and volunteers.

She was also the CEO of a complex national charity, leading them through difficult and turbulent times. She understands the role of the board, where their responsibilities should start and end, the complexities of leadership in an ever-shifting environment and the importance of governance including, risk and contingency.

She brings lived experience, empathy, and the ability to get to the heart of a situation.  She knows that third sector organisations bring their own unique challenges.

Governance is extremely important. In addition to understanding what is required from a risk, finance, and legal point of view, not forgetting the supporting processes and procedures, there is also the need to be able to work well with people. Most organisations in the third sector are run by people who are giving up their time pro bono.  Interpersonal relationships must be handled well, or they can cause serious problems for the whole organisation.

Understanding the difference between strategic and operational responsibilities is vital.  This can be particularly difficult in the third sector when organisations are led by volunteers who may not have strategic backgrounds or experience.

Finance can be tight / non-existent and the beneficiaries they serve are often people in crisis.

We are here to help and support trustees and executive teams to set clear direction, provide good governance, understand their roles and help them develop techniques for managing people.
